The universe is pushing me to look at life after 50. Everywhere I go, Im invited to speak to boomers and work with them as they trudge through their mental and physical transitions. And, oh man, no one is happy out there. Lots of shocked faces when folks want their body to stay north, and instead its heading south. What are the new rules for staying fit, youthful and energized once you crack the big five oh? This is something I explored in my latest book Fit to Live, and will continue to delve into with my next book which will be out in 2009. I love this new place of study. Its wide open. Scientists are asking just what is normal for 50, 60, 70 and beyond? Are you supposed to be taking hormonal concoctions to keep your levels in line with a 30 or 40 year old? Heck if anyone knows. But, as a physician and scientist, I will predict that within the next 5 years, science will have advanced enough to be able to provide each person with a more customized and individualized prescription for optimal aging, starting with young adulthood. Ideally, its womb to tomb, but I see that realistically well be starting with certain demographic groups like the boomers. Boomers are eager to learn to live long and well. Eager students are a blessing to work with. All eyes and ears, taking notes, making life changes.
