Im getting geared up to hit the road and get people inspired to make the small lifestyle changes that will yield more years of a rich and fulfilling life. Ill bet you didnt know how many years! Theres a terrific article in the January issue of the journal Public Library of Science Medicine that provides evidence that if you engage in just four healthy habits: eating five or more servings of fruits and veggies a day, drinking alcohol in moderation, not smoking, and getting in daily physical activity, youll live 14 more years on average than people who dont do this. The really cool news is that none of these behaviors is radical. Were not asking people to do big time changes here. The greatest effect was seen in deaths due to heart disease and stroke. If you want to learn more about how much fruit and vegetables you need in your diet as it relates to your age and activity level, log onto: www.fruitsandveggiesmatter.gov. Scope out my books Body for Life for Women as well as Fit to Live for more information and resources to learn how small steps are the foundation for healthier living that lasts a lifetime.
