I have rediscovered I love to hike. And I also firmly believe that the hardest part about removing almost 60 pounds is gearing up to lose the first ten. The rest is repetition and fine-tuning.
I have learned that to reach my goals, they had to be seen as something exciting and rewarding. I had to truly get that I was happier about working towards fitness, than I would be eating binge foods and zoning out.
On May 12th, reaching a goal of removing 50 pounds on that very day, I went to Dr. Peekes Spring retreat. It was partnered with Fitness Magazine. This time, I went from a place of joy, not fear. And now I was a strong trekker two. Somehow, with hiking, and weight training, my issues with fybromyalgia had subsided, and only were now presenting themselves in minor flare-ups.
My biggest challenge for the Grand-Canyon hike that I see, is dealing with the heat, and hoping that my back will adjust to wearing a pack of up to 25 pounds. This is something I am very concerned about, as my fybromyalgia affects my upper back muscles. Ill just have to work up to it.
My new mantra is 145 by 45, as I will be turning 45 on August 31st. the day after we complete the Grand Canyon hike. I am 9 pounds away. More importantly, my mantra really is to continue down this path of fitness as far as I possibly can. And I hope I dont ever find the end of the road!
Ill be blogging in again soon. For whoever is reading this, I truly appreciate your good thoughts, and support. If youre interested, I have a poem that I wrote on this web site, under the heading creative retreaters.
Most importantly, I want to leave you with the message not to give up on yourself. I was so close to doing that. And less than a year later, I have made it out of that dark decline. It is possible. You just have to trust that it can be done.
