When last I wrote, I lamented the relative coolness we have been having for a July in Mississippi. Well, as the old saying goes, if you dont like the weather, stick around it will change. We are now experiencing the high 90s and near triple-digit humidity, which make those training runs and walks a real challenge. But the canyon heat will be dry, people tell me, hinting that it will be a breeze because the humidity will be lower. I dont care where you are, if its over 100 degrees, its hot.
I was in St. Louis this week, an interesting place to be on the day that Anheuser-Busch announced it was selling to a Belgium company. My hotel was located near the arch, and I got to run under it in the beautiful park beside the Mississippi River. It was such a welcome respite after sitting in windowless conference sessions all day long.
Here is the Mississippi way to train for a Grand Canyon hike:
Me at the Southern Miss football stadium Go Eagles!
Im off to the beach in NW Florida this week, the most beautiful beaches in the world (in my humble opinion). I love walking in the sand (a good workout and, with the vast ocean beside me, an excellent reminder that Im not the center of the universe). Im bringing some trash reading, so Im hoping to get a little rest and relaxation while Im there.
Happy birthday to me on Thursday! Ill be 48. I used to get all pissy when people would say, Wow, you look good for your age. But now I think that any compliment is good, so Ill take what I can get. The best thing is that I feel good, for any age. Im healthy, Im well, Im happy. Im in a great place so fortunate. What better birthday present is there?
Happy Trails!
