Hi,
I started the week with my new floor/muscle workout routine. After meeting with the trainer I decided to investigate the costs of joining a gym. First, I went to my local gym. They offer a huge variety of equipment, classes and indoor track. The cost seemed just as huge though. They want $125 to join and then $39-$50 per month for a year and additional costs for classes. They are willing to discount if you are military which I did think was great but that was just more financially than I am currently willing to commit to. On my drive home I connected that we have a newish Community Center right on my way home. I figured they must have gym equipment so I stopped in there to check it out and see what they offered. They have a fitness and gym room with a pretty extensive amount of different weight machines and fair amount of treadmills/elliptical/steppers/stationary bikes. Their membership is $65 for 3 months, $90 for 6 months or $150 for the year with additional costs for classes. The price was much more manageable but still out of my budget. I thought Id be sticking with the routine Scott (the trainer) gave me. After mentioning all this to a co-worker they reminded me our office building has a small gymand its FREEI luv the free! I went down to check it out. We have a locker room with shower, two treadmills, an elliptical, a stationary bike & weights. Now its not as extensive as the options I had found but its FREEand I can just walk down on my way out and spend less than an hour after work before my drive home. I called and checked with Dr. Peeke about using the machines, the elliptical or treadmill. She let me know that my pedometer wouldnt record my steps properly on those machines. She advised it would be great if I wanted to use them and that my goal would be to check the calories burnedthat should be in the 450 range.
The next day I brought a pair of loose gym pants, baggy t-shirt (I dont have any fancy workout clothes) and my walking shoes to work. On my way out I decided to use the elliptical. WOW, what a machine. If you use that one be prepared. Its totally different than walking 10,000 steps. It just about kicked my butt. My legs felt like jello. I started with 30 minutes at level 3. I burned 310 calories. I also walked approx 6800 steps on my pedometer for the day. That was a good feeling. I went back on Friday and spent 50 minutes (including my changing time) doing the elliptical again, burning 353 calories. You will feel like you worked those legs. This is a great option for me on days that just dont seem like Ill have enough time to walk my steps (its faster than walking all through my neighborhood) or on rainy days, it is another option.
I was all jazzed up for the weekend. I went to the Beach. I was hoping to get a ton of walking in on the beach and boardwalkbut it rained and was kinda cold. Too cold and windy on the beach for much of a walk. My wonderful husband suggested going to Loweshed suffer for me, killing time by shopping the grills or tools while I could walk. So plan B: thats what we did. I walked about 8000 steps there. And since he got his shopping timeI thought is was only fair that I get shopping time. So off to the small town of Lewes where I managed to squeeze another 3500 steps in just walking around that little town.
We woke to a wet morning Sunday and decided to get the drive over with early. By the time we got home I was poopedtoo pooped to fight my couch loving side. I thought maybe twice about walking down to the storebut my couch surfing side won out. I plopped down bonded with my favorite spot on the couch and watched a movie. By the time it was done so was I. It was dinner, a shower and off to bed. I did have the twang of guilt running through me as I went down for the count.
Today I am feeling somewhat discouraged and guilty. I stepped on the scale and did I lose anythingnope but didnt gain or lose anything. I thought last week went pretty well over allI thought I worked out more and was hoping to see those results on my scalebut didnt. Im starting today trying to be positive but fighting my internal battlethe doubts are creeping in. You know the ones why bother this isnt going to work those kind of thoughts. When I have a negative thought I am following it up with fit and alive, I can and will do this. I repeated that to myself all morningI am working my daily plan to include keeping my positive thoughts, getting my steps and working my exercise routine. The plan for me is essential to obtain my daily goals.
